  1. Low-calorie diet: In the weeks/days before your surgery, try to eat no more than 1200 calories per day unless advised otherwise by your surgeon.

    • Losing weight prior to weight loss surgery will help you to prepare physically and mentally for the dietary changes.

    • Some of your medications may need to be changed prior to or after surgery.

  3. No alcohol one day prior to surgery

  5. Be sure to have all testing (Chest X-Ray, EKG, lab work) completed before surgery.

  6. Do not wear make-up, lipstick, nail polish, or perfume on the day of surgery.

    • Do not take diabetes or thyroid medications
    • If you use CPAP or BiPAP, bring the machine the day of surgery
    • If you are on blood thinners –ask your surgeon when to stop them before surgery

In March 2011 I attended Hope Bariatrics weight loss seminar at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Little did I know, this would be the step that would change the rest of my life. I was tired of watching life pass me by as my weight held me back, it was time for me to live life to the fullest! This opportunity was given to me by Hope Bariatrics. The professionalism, knowledge, support and compassion of Dr. Felix and staff are phenomenal. I am 1 year post op and have lost nearly 130 lbs.! Most importantly, I realize that gastric bypass along with eating a healthy diet and maintaining an active life style is the answer to long-term weight loss.
